Heightened Security
Be prepared to arrive early at the airport. Two hours before an international flight are NOT enough. Airlines suggest three, perhaps four is not unreasonable. Airports have implemented tighter security procedures to protect you. Therefore:
Outside the Airport
- Unauthorized, unattended vehicles near a terminal building will be towed.
- There will be an increased presence of law enforcement and security personnel, both internal and external.
- There will also be heightened vigilance over unattended bags.
In the Airport
- Have valid photo identification with you. For international travel, obviously, you need a valid and active passport. More than one form of valid photo ID is even better.
- Passenger and baggage security screenings will be more stringent than you have experienced in the past. Plan for this additional stress and cultivate a calm mind. Remind yourselves how important it is indeed.
- Baggage will no longer be accepted for check in at curbside or at off-airport locations. Luggage may be checked at the airport within four hours of flight time.
- The ONLY individuals allowed to pass through the security checkpoints (x-ray machine, metal detector) will be those holding:
An electronic ticket confirmation letter
A travel agency itinerary or itinerary printed by the airline you are flying
A boarding pass or a paper ticket for a valid flight
- People without tickets will not be permitted in the gate areas to greet arriving passengers or see off departing passengers.
- Special arrangements will be made ONLY AT THE AIRPORT CHECK IN COUNTERS for parents or guardians of unaccompanied minors and passengers with special needs.
- There will be an increased presence of law enforcement and security personnel, both internal and external.
- There will also be heightened vigilance over unattended bags.
In Your Bags
- No knives of any kind will be permitted on flights of most airlines.
